Before joining TU Delft, I spent a year with the SAP Innovation Center in Berlin, working on scalable architectures for machine learning inference and training. Before SAP, I was a postdoc at the database systems group in TU Berlin, headed by Volker Markl. I received my PhD from INRIA Saclay & Universite Paris-Sud in 2013, supervised by Ioana Manolescu. Prior to that, I was a member of the High Performance Computing systems Lab (HPCL), at the University of Cyprus, working with Marios Dikaiakos.
I work in the broad area of scalable data management; more specifically on data management and analysis, stream processing, systems for scalable AI/ML, and data integration.
I have been awarded the ACM SIGMOD Research Highlights Award in 2015, best paper award at EDBT 2019, the NWO VIDI grant in 2023, the EDBT best demo award in 2023, as well as the ACM SIGMOD Systems Award in 2023.

- May 2023: Together with the Apache Flink team, we were awarded the ACM SIGMOD Systems Award 2023!
- April 2023: We won the best paper award at EDBT 2023.
- June 2022: I was awarded the VIDI grant (800K) from NWO! The funding will allow me to build a transactional actor-like Cloud programming model on top of dataflow systems!
- June 2022: I was promoted to Associate Professor.
- October 2021: I have prepared a video for this year’s Flink Forward. I pretty much describe what I am up to in the last couple of years.
- August 2021: Valentine was presented in this year’s ICDE 2021 and demoed in VLDB 2021.
- June 2021: We received the best paper award in ACM DEBS 2021, for our work on implementing implementing transactions on Flink’s Statefun.
- March 2021: Clonos, a fault-tolerance scheme for stream processing will be presented in this year’s SIGMOD 2021.
- October 2020: We have implemented the schema matching algorithms of the last 20 years and released them on Github in order to create a benchmark. We offer datasets with ground truth too!
- April 2020: We will present a tutorial on the evolution of stream processing systems during the last two decades, in SIGMOD 2020.
- March 2020: Christos will be presenting our work on using embeddings for schema matching in the SEAS workshop at EDBT 2020.
